HOW TO DESIGN YOUR SPACE TO SUIT YOUR LIFESTYLE

January 21, 2016

Don’t let trends be the sole force that drives the design in your space. Everyone is different and even if you have a magazine image of your ideal space, it may not be what’s best for you.

The following tips will put you on the right path to creating a space that truly suits your lifestyle.

Find Your Colour Inspiration

It can be daunting when you’re unsure where to start on a new project. Finding inspiration or falling in love with a particular item can be the kick-start you need to establish a colour palette for your space. Some examples may include a fabric, rug or a painting.

Often times one may find themselves wanting to change the look and feel of their space to keep up with the latest trends. In order to avoid an entire redesign of the space, which can be costly, chose neutral colours for the staple pieces of furniture in the room (i.e sofa) and showcase the latest colour and pattern trends through accent pieces.

After having established a colour scheme, begin to take a look at furniture. Remember not to feel threatened by the overwhelming options. By having a colour for your space in mind, you will find it easier to find pieces that appeal to you.

Determine Functionality

One of the most important aspects to design is how the space will function. Whether moving into a new home or renovating an existing one, it is important to consider what has and hasn’t worked thus far in your living environment.

Understand your needs within the space. Once you know how you live in a space and what’s important to you in terms of function, start with your room layout. Sketch out with a basic plan on paper to help you decide where each element should go.

The following tips can help you make a room more functional:

1. Maximize vertical space

To help you get a start, we’ve selected a few pieces we think could be a great addition to your space!

The Felton White Bookcase can be used as a display cabinet, bookcase, or even a room divider. Its white clean lines and contemporary look will give your space a fresh airy look! The Fayyum Sofa, available in a variety of colors, is one large piece suitable for your living space, providing room and comfort to any social gathering. The Floresville Coffee Table is a small flexible piece which can be added to any space. Its circular shape and 360-degree rotating levels make it easier to reach any object! For lighting options, the Eichen Floor Lamp is a modern piece designed to suit the comfort of the user. This lamp can be easily moved around for direct lighting and includes an adjustable stem. The Marberry Sconce is a perfect piece for in-between spaces. This light fixture can be adjusted horizontally and vertically and can be installed indoors as well as outdoors!
