HOW TO CREATE A RELAXING SPACE IN YOUR HOME

January 28, 2016

The ability to feel at ease is what relaxation is all about. Each person’s perception of relaxation can differ wildly, enjoying some alone time reading a book or being surrounded by friends.

It can be difficult to find tranquility and relaxation in our lives. One way to unwind is through creating spaces in our homes that are calming.

At Ambience, we believe in creating the “experience of a space” and that “great design should feel as good as it looks”.

Here are some elements that can help create an experience for your senses as you unwind + relax:

SENSORY ENVIRONMENT

Scent can contribute to the mood of a room. Fragrance can be incorporated with candles, potpourri, scented oil diffusers, incense or air fresheners.

Soft Textures such as a cozy blanket, pillows or a rug can create a sense of tranquility and warmth, especially when paired with comfortable pieces of furniture.

Music helps restore and relax the mind unlike other visually stimulating technology, such as television. Have your favourite soothing music playing in the background or download our Create Ambience Music Mix, our free gift to you for setting the mood right in your space.

FURNITURE

Choosing the right furniture is a key component in creating your comfortable, relaxing environment. Grouping of furniture pieces can add warmth to a space.

CALMING COLOURS

Inspired by nature, earth tones can give a space a sense of relaxation and calmness. If you’re looking for some inspiration to start creating your own relaxing space, here are some calming colour furniture picks we think are a perfect addition to your home!

Blue relaxes your mind and reduces tension. The right blue will be soft, neutral, and restful.

Green symbolizes nature and is visually soothing, creating a refreshed vibe.

Violet brings inner balance and peace.

Grey is a cool neutral that can provide a very soothing and cooling presence.

Pink brings calm and peace and can soothe the energy in a room.

Colour is one of the first elements that people respond to and is an integral part of any design project whether painting walls, installing flooring, upholstering furniture, or selecting art. Our Human Responses to Colour Guide will show you how colour can influence mood and behavior and has a full range of emotional effects.

SIMPLIFY

Clear the clutter and organize your space. Clutter is distracting and can make a space overwhelming. The easiest way to create a stress-free environment is to simplify your space by being organized and minimalistic.
