How to Create a Fairy Tale Mood: Charming Bedroom Ideas for Children

June 20, 2021

Nowadays, little ones are attracted to characters and fantastic worlds out of storybooks, cinema and television. This is why it has become more common to see that parents are remodeling children’s rooms to reflect those wonderful fantasies. Who wouldn’t want to have a room decorated with their favorite fairy tale theme? If you want to make a room for your child but you have no idea where to start, then read on for some tips that might be helpful.

The Theme/Motive

Before starting to remodel the room, you should think about what theme you would like it to have or the story you would like to tell. Be it fantastic beings like fairies, dragons, unicorns, princes and princesses or a science fiction theme, like spaceships and robots. Something that could help with ideas would be traveling to some theme parks, once you are able. Your children would be overjoyed while you take notes for their bedroom. Just make sure that you have the necessary documents, such as an international driving permit, to be able to get around freely in a foreign place.

Wall and Ceiling Decoration

Once you have chosen the theme that your child likes the most it is time to choose the decoration, and the first point to be discussed will be the colors. Here you should think about whether you want them to be warm or bright tones, or on the contrary, you prefer them to be darker or neutral tones. You can use paint in shades of green and brown to create an enchanted forest and blues and whites to create a sky on the ceiling. You can also use dark blues and black to create an outer space atmosphere for your spaceship theme with touches of white/yellow that resemble distant stars seen in the sky. Another option that you can use instead of just paint is a beautiful wallpaper that resembles the environment you want to achieve.

Bed and Other Furniture

This may be a matter of preferences, you may want to place a piece of furniture that stands out and is the center of attention in the room, such as a bed in the shape of a spaceship, or a bed for a princess using beautiful sheets. On the contrary, you want to fill the room with different areas using furniture with cushions in the shape of mushrooms, clouds, and other figures that go with your theme. If you do not have a lot of space in the room, think about choosing small furniture; try a backless sofa, attach racks to the dresser, use frameless cabinets, or buy your kid a high-rise bed. When you are remodeling the room, create a play area that looks like a castle, a house, a hangar for spaceships, or a robot repair shop.

Floor

A good touch could be to use the floor and place a carpet that resembles grass, an earth floor, the emptiness of outer space or the surface of a moon or planet, it could also be more like the floor of the interior of a castle, with a carpet that goes straight to the princess’s bed. Everything is in the imagination and the atmosphere of the room. If you are not sure whether to add something more to the room, you can consider asking nurses about the environment’s influence on the children’s wellbeing. These medical professionals have passed the NCLEX RN exam and are highly qualified to give advice regarding your children’s emotional, mental and physical health.

Accessories

Once we have defined the furniture that will make the room stand out, it is time to place a few small touches of fantasy throughout the place and that will give an extra touch to the decoration. If your theme is space, you may want to place a lamp that resembles a sun (it could also work with a princess room that is “outdoors” or “in the meadows”) you can place mobiles on the ceiling of planets and some lights that look like stars. Or you can use the computer to play movie soundtracks.

Final Word

Now that you know some interesting ideas that you can use, it only remains to put all those tips into practice and create that wonderful fairy tale room for your child. You know, the first thing is to think about what theme your children would like the most and then it’s just a matter of choosing the colors for the walls and ceiling, the furniture that goes with the theme and adding some accessories to give it the finishing touches. Now go on and make that fairy tale room come true!
