It is the time of the year again when we welcome a new inspiration, a new spotlight into the overwhelming world of color. The color selected this year with great consideration and taken from hints of the environment for its bold, joyful flare is Viva Magenta!
The Origin:
This color is said to be a descendant of the red family evoking signals of strength. It was 2019 when we saw a warm red family tone, so it was greatly overdue that we welcome magenta into our homes. This color being quite bright it is meant to signify bravery, fearless nature, joy and optimistic celebration. When selecting a color every year, there is an inspiration from nature. Viva Magenta was purple combined with the red of the cochineal, known as one of the most precious three dyes belonging to the natural insect family.
Accessorizing in a Home:
It is quite obvious that this color’s dominance is vibrant and said to awaken an individual’s spirit. Pantone advisors recommend that designers can harness the full power of this color of the year but using it for items such as a velvet sofa. Velvet is making its move up through the decades, and was last raved about in the 1970’s.
This vibrant colour can be painted as an accent wall to act as an electrifying statement, but for those simplistic/neutral home lovers, this may not appeal to you. If you love the color but want to dial down on the intensity, look to find wallpaper with hints of Viva Magenta integrated.
With the boldness of this color, it’s great choice for accent décor. It is suggested that this shade is paired with pale grey, blue and pastel tones or on the other end of the spectrum, dark earth tones like brown or charcoal to increase the intensity.
What makes this colour so appealing to the design industry is its ability to be portable – not that it has the ability to grow legs and walk away, but when used as an accessory like a throw blanket or decorative pillow, it can simply be added or removed in any given space.
Theresa Clement, a color expert suggests that individuals buy a quart of the paint color, and then paint two entire small canvases. Then hang one—with a temporary hook—on the wall that is being considered for paint. Hang the other one in the busiest spot in the house, where you walk by multiple times every day. Then notice if you smile every time you see the color or start worrying. You’ll know if the color is for you or not.
Working it Outside:
If this color does not work with your pre-existing home décor, try bringing it outdoors for the warmer seasons. Adding magenta-hued florals will add a pop of colour to the space and be a great eye catcher for family and friends, or even the neighbourhood for curb appeal.
We welcome 2023’s Viva Magenta with open arms, embracing this color in the littlest places as an accent to a larger-scale project such as an accent wall. With this color’s joyful optimistism, it is sure to brighten up all aspects as we emerge into this new year!
