The power of color cannot be understated whether it’s on our clothes or in the home décor that we choose. Colors have the ability to lift people’s mood and to create an atmosphere in an area.
Color can also make a small area in a home appear larger and similarly, it can help to create depth in an area that seems too open. Sometimes people are afraid of color or what they perceive to be too much color. Some colors can be seen as over powering or strong and this also can be an issue.
There is usually a sense of trepidation when a homeowner sets out to apply a new color to their scheme in the home. That’s why many people like to get paint samples to try them out before committing to a specific scheme. It’s also a good idea to paint the color samples in different parts of the room, leave them for at least 24 hours to settle and view the color at different times of the day. Our homes achieve different variances of light throughout the day and so, certain colors can look incredibly different to what we were expecting.
Unfortunately, those color sample cards in paint stores look pretty but it’s so difficult to get an actual indication of the color in situ without painting it on the actual location. So how do you choose the right color for your home’s interior? Of course some choices might be based on personal tastes, some based on inspiration from existing pieces of wall art in the room and some inspiration can come from something we’ve seen on Instagram, Facebook or Pinterest, for example. Also remember we can be inspired by the outside so maybe you love a specific flower; you can always get your paint store to create the color you desire!
